Business consulting session reviewing financial charts in a bright English office

Business consulting that actually changes your numbers

Most owners know something is off. Revenue plateaus, margins thin out, the team drifts. We sit with you, find the specific drag on your business, and fix it within a defined timeline. No vague frameworks. No 80-page decks you will never open.

Four weeks from confusion to a working plan

1

Week one: the diagnostic

We review your last 12 months of financials, interview up to five key staff, and shadow one full operating day. By Friday, you receive a two-page summary of the three biggest revenue leaks and the root cause behind each one.

2

Week two: pricing and cost audit

We map every product or service line against its true cost, including the labour hours nobody tracks. Clients routinely discover that 15–30% of their revenue comes from offerings that barely break even or lose money outright.

3

Week three: the action plan

Not a strategy document. A spreadsheet with 12 concrete actions, each assigned to a person, each with a deadline and a measurable target. We prioritise by impact-to-effort ratio so you start with the changes that pay off fastest.

4

Week four onwards: implementation support

We join your weekly management call for the next 90 days. If an action stalls, we troubleshoot it with the responsible person directly. You get a monthly scorecard comparing actual results against the targets we set together.

What we actually do inside your business

Every engagement is scoped around a specific problem. We do not sell retainers for the sake of recurring fees. Here are the areas where we intervene most often.

Margin recovery

We trace where your gross margin disappears between the quote and the invoice. Common culprits: scope creep, untracked consumables, and discount habits that started as exceptions and became policy. A typical engagement recovers 8–15 margin points within one quarter.

Organisational design

When a business grows past 15 people, the original structure usually breaks. Decisions bottleneck through the founder, middle managers duplicate each other's work, and nobody owns customer complaints end-to-end. We redraw reporting lines and role scopes so the business can run a normal week without the owner in the room.

Growth planning

Not a vision board. We build a financial model showing exactly what revenue, headcount and cash reserve you need at each stage to reach a defined target within 18 months. The model updates monthly with real numbers so you can see whether you are ahead or behind.

Pricing strategy

Most SMEs set prices by copying competitors or adding a flat percentage to cost. Both approaches leave money on the table. We test willingness-to-pay through structured conversations with your existing customers and build a tiered pricing model that reflects actual value delivered.

Leadership coaching

One-to-one sessions with the owner or senior managers, fortnightly, focused on the decisions they are avoiding. We do not do motivational talks. Each session ends with a written commitment: one decision made, one action taken before the next meeting.

Exit preparation

Planning to sell in the next two to five years? We help you identify what a buyer will scrutinise, clean up the financials, reduce owner-dependency, and position the business for a valuation multiple that reflects its actual earning power rather than a distressed-sale discount.

What changed for these businesses

British manufacturing workshop interior

Precision parts manufacturer, West Midlands

Gross margin from 18% to 31% in five months

The owner quoted jobs using a 2016 cost sheet. Material costs had risen 40% since then, but prices had not. We rebuilt the quoting template, removed two loss-making product lines, and renegotiated supplier terms on the remaining stock.

Independent English coffee roastery

Speciality coffee roaster, Bristol

Revenue up 44% with zero new customers

They had 320 wholesale accounts but only sold one SKU to most of them. We designed a tiered wholesale menu with three bundle sizes and a seasonal subscription. Average order value jumped from £85 to £142 within two order cycles.

Modern recruitment agency office in London

Recruitment agency, London

Owner reduced working hours from 65 to 42 per week

Every placement decision went through the founder. We introduced a decision matrix for consultants, promoted two senior recruiters to team leads, and moved the founder to a weekly review cadence instead of daily sign-off on every candidate shortlist.

Landscaping company van beside an English garden

Landscaping firm, Yorkshire

Cash reserves from £12k to £95k in eight months

The business was profitable on paper but always short on cash. Payment terms were 60 days, materials were paid upfront, and invoicing happened whenever someone remembered. We moved to 14-day terms with a 3% early-payment incentive and automated invoice dispatch on job completion.

Questions we hear in almost every first call

The four-week diagnostic is a fixed fee of £3,200 plus VAT. Ongoing implementation support after that is £1,400 per month, billed monthly with no lock-in. If we do not find at least £3,200 worth of recoverable margin in the diagnostic, we refund the fee. That has happened twice in seven years.

Occasionally. The diagnostic week works best face-to-face, so we prefer clients within reasonable travel distance of our base. We have done remote engagements for businesses in Scotland and Wales, but the shadowing day requires at least one on-site visit.

Revenue between £500k and £15m, usually 5 to 80 employees. Below £500k, the diagnostic fee is hard to justify. Above £15m, you probably need a larger firm with sector-specific teams. Our sweet spot is the owner-managed business that has outgrown its original way of operating.

Yes. That is the point. If you want validation, hire a marketing agency. We are here to find the problems and name them plainly. Our diagnostic reports are short and blunt. Clients who get the most value are the ones willing to act on uncomfortable findings.

We take on two new diagnostic clients per month. Current lead time is about three weeks. The free 30-minute call is usually available within 48 hours of enquiry.

Let's talk about your business

The first call is 30 minutes, free, and has no sales pitch attached. We will ask about your revenue, your team size, and the one thing keeping you up at night. If we think we can help, we will explain exactly how. If not, we will say so.
